Obesity Is Not Your Fault – But Fixing It Requires More Than Blame

Writer: Grinto DavyGrinto Davy

Obesity rates are skyrocketing. Diabetes, fatty liver, PCOS—these are no longer rare conditions. Everyone says the solution is a lifestyle change, but let’s be honest—how?

You’ve heard it all.

Cut oil. Cut sugar. Cut carbs. Exercise more.

Some blame fat. Some blame sedentary life. Others blame food prices.

But here’s the problem—obesity isn’t just about food or exercise.

Low-income people have obesity. So, can we blame expensive food?

Laborers have obesity. So, can we blame inactivity?

Wealthy urban people have obesity. So, can we blame poor nutrition?

Clearly, there’s more to this than just diet and exercise. If we keep pointing fingers at oil, carbs, or inactivity, we’re missing the bigger picture. Obesity will only get worse. So will diabetes, fatty liver, and hormonal disorders.

A 360-Degree Approach Is the Only Way

Treating obesity means looking at everything

✅ Food

✅ Physical activity

✅ Sleep

✅ Stress

✅ Metabolic health

It’s not about random diet charts, meal replacements, or gym challenges. It’s about YOU. Your lifestyle, your job, your food choices, your body. Obesity treatment must be personal. What works for one person may not work for another.

Exercise Alone Won’t Fix It

If exercise was the answer, why do some athletes struggle with weight? Why do some people who work physically demanding jobs still have obesity?

And what about:

Elderly people?

Severely obese individuals?

People with neurological or movement disorders?

Telling them to “just exercise” isn’t a solution. And for many, excessive workouts can even make things worse if metabolic health isn’t fixed first.

Surgery? Maybe. But It’s Not a Magic Fix.

For morbid obesity, surgery is an option. But here’s the truth—

If a patient doesn’t change their lifestyle, the weight comes back in 3-4 years.

Surgery without personalized guidance is just another temporary fix.

The Problem With Social Media Diet Trends

These days, everyone is a “health expert.”

Engineers, influencers, random fitness coaches—all telling you what to eat, what to avoid, how to exercise.

And what do they promote?

• Meal replacements

• Supplements

• Salad-only diets

• Juice cleanses

This isn’t health. This is starvation.

Yes, people lose weight fast. But then—

❌ They feel weak

❌ They develop cravings

❌ They regain all the weight

This cycle damages metabolism and makes obesity even harder to treat.

Stop Blaming Individuals. Start Educating Them.

Most people want to be healthy. No one chooses obesity.

But misinformation is everywhere.

Even health professionals argue about what’s right and wrong.

Some say:

• “Eat only homemade food.”

• But then they sell meal replacements and powders.

• “Avoid sugar and oil.”

• But they push extreme low-carb or keto diets.

This confuses people. It makes them think healthy eating is a punishment. It shouldn’t be.

Real Solutions for Real People

Obesity treatment shouldn’t be torture.

✅ You should enjoy your normal food.

✅ You should enjoy movement that fits your body.

✅ You should sleep well and manage stress.

The solution isn’t some magic food or a diet challenge. It’s about balance—learning how to eat right, move right, and live right.

The Takeaway

• Obesity isn’t your fault—but ignoring it isn’t an option.

• It’s not just about food or exercise. It’s about metabolic health.

Personalized lifestyle changes work. One-size-fits-all plans don’t.

No more diet torture. No more weight loss competitions. No more food fear.

Obesity isn’t a cosmetic problem. It’s a medical condition that needs the right approach.

If we want to stop this crisis, we need to stop blaming and start guiding. No more quick fixes. No more fads. Just real, lasting change.
